The world is on fire or drowning — actually both! No one can doubt that surely. And yet they do. Before we can save the world we have to persuade enough people that a problem exists, that we can create a plan to solve it, then persuade them to help with its implementation.

So, what is the plan? Do we wait for governments around the world to legislate for solutions? This hasn’t worked so far. The ruling party in many democracies around the world swings from leaning left to leaning right, with the consequent change in attitude to the global…

There is considerable evidence, based on polling, to suggest that the majority of the UK electorate never wanted to leave the EU and perhaps more importantly, that there is now a majority wanting to rejoin. (Rejoin EU Majority ). Polls also indicate that even amongst leavers/Tories/older people, far fewer than 50% believe that Brexit is going well, and with good reason. (Many Doubts).

Indeed, as long ago as early 2019 and long before we were fully committed to leaving, there had been a substantial change of heart with the majority wanting at the very least to have a second referendum…

Here we are after four and a half long years, out of the EU and with little good to show for it.

I had for many years been anti the EU for a lot of reasons, many of which still exist today — but I never wanted it to cease to exist nor for the UK to stop being a member. What I did want was for it and its democratic credentials to be improved, updated, and for us, the people to feel that we had far more knowledge about its workings as well as influence over the way it…

ELECTRIC VEHICLES — THE REALITY

Out of the millions of people around the UK who drive regularly, only a few thousand have actually driven a fully electric car, or “EV”. The reasons are easy to understand, although many people’s views are now out of date. I was, for many years, very sceptical about the ability of the EV to ever replace ICE cars (internal combustion engine).

I am sure most people will recall the damning report by the BBC, of someone attempting to drive from London to Edinburgh — which took 4 days. But since then there have been tremendous…

NOW IS THE TIME FOR UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME — TODAY!

When I first gave any serious thought to UBI, I believed it was an original thought and that I had come up with the inklings of a brilliant idea which needed working on — one day! I had no idea that it had been around for a very long time. It is believed that Thomas Payne may have proposed one of the earliest versions.

However, since then a number of countries have tried out different versions, mainly based on relatively small numbers of people often in desperate need caused by…

LABOUR LACK OF LEADERSHIP

The next leader of the Labour Party does not have to come from the North or the South, nor should the choice come down to being a man or a woman, black or white, gay or straight. A belief that change in one or more of these attributes will make any difference to their fortunes will probably ensure that they lose again in the next election.

I am not a member of the Labour Party. Traditionally, I have voted Conservative although that has not been the case in recent years; and I have voted for all…

Part One — What is Wrong with the EU

I was a voter in the referendum held in 1975 when we were asked to vote on whether or not we should remain in or leave the Common Market. We had been taken into the Common Market by Edward Heath in 1973 without a real mandate for doing so. This is supported by the fact that his parliamentary majority was achieved with only 33% of the electorate voting for his party. …

George Woodhouse

Not a politician but a highly political animal with very strong views based on fairness, levelling up not down, free health & education but mostly DEMOCRACY!
